Overview

In celebration of Black History Month and in honour of black people for their dedicated contribution to communities and societies, this tour focuses on Africans, people of African descent and the connection to the past in order to understand the present and create a better future. It also aims to heighten the confidence and awareness of Black History.

Itinerary

Day 1

AKWAABA (WELCOME) - ARRIVAL

Arrive in Ghana. Meet and assist by The Chariot staff (Tour Guide & Chauffeur). Transfer to hotel. Brief introduction on board. Welcome drink on arrival and orientation shortly after.

Day 2

ACCRA CITY TOUR

Your tour of Ghana begins after a hefty breakfast. This full day city tour will take you through the administrative or political route in the Accra Metropolis. Get your cameras ready for those enchanting Kodak moments at the famous Black Star Gate (where VP Kamala Harris of the USA made her historic speech on her 3-day tour to Ghana), Black Star Square also known as the Independence Square (a monumental site for Ghana’s Independence Day Parade).

Continue to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum in memory and honor of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah (the First President of Ghana) and prominent Pan Africanist. Visit Old Accra for the Jamestown Walking Tour and the Brazil House, one of the very few Afro-Brazilian houses that was not sold off but developed for commercial purposes dated back to 1836. Occupied by the Tabom people formely enslaved people who were originally captured from Yoruba-speaking communities in West Africa who later returned to settle Ghana from Brazil. De Souza, Pereria, Palmares, Nelson, Azumah, Amorin, De Medeiros, Nunoo, Olympio, and Maslieno are some of the names still existing amongst Ghanaians.

Exercise your bargaining skills at the Center for National Culture (popularly known as the Arts Center). Your tour guide will assist you with this process.

Climax your day with a visit to the W.E.B DuBois Center in reverence for the “Father of Pan Africanism”.  The center is where Dr. DuBois spent his last years right here in Ghana.

Your night tour begins at 6pm when the tour guide and chauffeur will pick you up for your welcome dinner at a chosen restaurant & pub to be communicated to you.

Drop off at your hotel or you can continue to discover Accra by night on your own.

Day 3

ACCRA – KUMASI

Enjoy a scenic drive to the Ashanti Region, home of the Ashanti Kingdom. Explore the city of monuments in dedication to the remembrance of the famous Ashanti people.

Continue to visit the Okomfo Anokye Sword Site, a significant representative of Ashanti unity. The exact spot the Golden Stool descended from the sky and sword pushed to the ground for more than 300 years. The sword still remains immovable despite several attempts. The Ashanti state is believed would collapse should the sword ever be removed.

Transfer, dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 4

MANHYIA PALACE MUSEUM | PREMPEH II MUSEUM

Today we visit the Manhyia Palace Museum. The museum (the old Manhyia Palace) is within the present Manhyia Palace, the seat and official residence of the Asante King (Asantehene).

The creation of this African Art Museum by the Asante people makes it a unique one in West Africa in recognition of their own leaders and also to convey the riches of the Asante Nation history and culture to future generations and visitors from all over the world coming to Ghana each year.

Continue to Prempeh II Jubilee Museum located inside the Kumasi Center for National Culture. The entrance is an embellishment of selected Adinkra Symbols. It includes diverse craft workshops including Kente weavers, Potters, Brass makers, Wood carvers and Batikers. The Museum provides an enthralling collection of Asante’s history.

Transfer, dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 5

KUMASI – ASSIN MANSO – ELMINA

Check out of your hotel after breakfast and depart for Elmina in the Central Region of Ghana. En route, visit the Assin Manso Slave River (Donkor Nsuo) where the slaves had their last bath before being sent to the Castles dungeons through the gates of ‘no return’ and transported to the Americas to work as slave stands condemned for all time. It is also the burial site of two enslaved Africans, Madam Crystal from Jamaica and Samuel Carson from the United States of America.

Continue to the beautiful fishing town of Elmina. Visit the Elmina Castle formerly known as St. George’s Castle which was the first trading post and the oldest European building in sub-Saharan Africa. The Elmina Castle receives many visitors each year because of its history as a major trans-Atlantic slave hub and is a preserved UNESCO’s World Heritage Site.                  

Enjoy your evening chitchatting about the day’s experience over some Seafood dinner and great music (Live Band – on weekends). Overnight at your resort or hotel.

Day 6

FIHANKRA EXPEREINCE | CAPE COAST CASTLE

This day will be spent reconnecting returnees with the cultural and spiritual ties that had been denied refused them for centuries through the Fihankra. After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you for a revelation and transformative experience. Climax the Fihankra experience with a naming ceremony which seeks to reattach people of African descent having been lost owing to the transatlantic slave trade to the Motherland.

Observe, participate in drumming and dancing by the locals while learning some new skills.

Continue to visit Cape Coast Castle after breakfast. The Castle originally for the trade of timber and gold but later used in the Atlantic Slave Trade. Encounter the “Door of no Return” which was the last stop before crossing the Atlantic Ocean.

Transfer and overnight at your beach resort.

Day 7

KAKUM NATIONAL PARK

Check out of your hotel after breakfast. Enjoy a panoramic view through the Denkyira Kingdom to the Kakum National Park after breakfast. It is one of West Africa’s surviving tropical rainforests. The key attraction is the tree canopy walkway that enables you to skywalk over the high tropical forest. It is a 350km long suspended bridge comprised of six tree platforms & seven connecting spans that stand 30metres above the forest ground. You can also choose to go hiking to explore and learn about the flora and fauna.

Stop by the Hans Cottage Botel enroute for late lunch on your own account. Join in the experience of watching and petting the most cherished crocodiles in the heart of Lake Hans.

Transfer to Accra and overnight at your hotel.

Day 8

ACCRA BY NIGHT TOUR

Spend the rest of your day at leisure after breakfast. Your guide and driver will pick you up for your night out. Enjoy some food and drinks at a pub or lounge or live band music and some grills at an open-air restaurant.

Overnight at your beach resort.

Day 9

DEPARTURE

After a hearty breakfast, enjoy your day at leisure while relaxing for your spa session (on your own account) or your guide and driver will be available for your last-minute shopping plans.

You will be transferred to the airport on time for your onward flight.
